Background To the Team
Mark II Motorsport was formed in 1988 by Mark Welch and Mark Norris who wanted to present a more professional approach to the sport. In 1993, the team decided to concentrate on tarmac or sealed surface rallies as the cost of forest style events became prohibitive. At that time, they were fielding a Mark II Escort and over the next two years, won every local and regional championship.

For 1995, they built an Escort RS Cosworth to compete at National and International level. The car was completed mid season and despite teething troubles, they managed one outright victory. The highlight of the season was undoubtedly 10th overall on the inaugural London International Rally, watched by thousands and heavily televised.

During the 1997 season the car was extensively modified bringing it to Group A level. Group A being the specification of the World Championship cars of the day. In 1999 the team competed in the National Tarmac Championship sponsored by Safety Devices. The team travelled around the UK to various rounds and also attended the events hosted in Belgium and ended the year in the top 10. On the Mewla Rally in August they finished fourth overall and were the leading Safety Devices crew, netting them maximum points. The result was fantastic as the rally was held over Epynt Army Ranges on the Brecon Beacons which is notorious for catching drivers out and the event drew together the best UK tarmac teams.

For the 2000 season the team competed again in the Safety Devices Tarmac Championship and debuted their new Escort WRC in May at the Millbrook Rally. The car is the most modern evolution of the Escort Cosworth and encompasses a whole suite of all embracing changes to engine, suspension, shell and transmission. Due to evolution the engine and transmission parts are still required to obtain the maximum benefit from the chassis. The team may elect to change the vehicle in favour of a more competitive mount.
